The past week has been truly dramatic... And it's not because it's Good Friday tomorrow or something... U might wonder why am i blogging at this time while i should be in school... Well, i will come to that part later...
Ever heard of students being punished by teachers and the latters were suspended/sacked? Think Nan Chiau High? Couple of years ago, thier school made headlines when their principal tapped the book on a female student's head and received a complaint from the parent to MOE for assault... That's downright dumb. Seriously, the MOE guidelines are not protecting the teachers at all... It's been giving the kids too much freedom, with no deterrence to unruly behaviour and worse, scant respect for teachers....
I was taking this P5 EM3 class for Social Studies... Now, most people always have some kind of prejudice, a strong stigma for EM3 kids... I tried my best to teach them, but they showed NIL interest in Spore's diplomacy with other countries and those propaganda saying our government is the best in the world, etc... Well, if i had a choice, i wouldn't teach them all these stuff! On Tuesday, things were ugly. There's this errant schoolboy, a perpetual troublemaker, who got splashed water on his shirt by another boy... In retaliation, he spilled his water back, and in the process splashed onto my pants! I shouted," What's the meaning of this?! I told you to stop right?" Now, i guess he went crazy... He started to hurl vulgarities, and i had to keep my temper in check. And he wanted to splash more water, so i had to grab him and lead him away! And then he tried to STRANGLE me! OMG! He clasped his hands around my neck, and i had to look at him sternly in the eyes and said, "Let go." before he went back to his seat and hurl more vulgarities. Thank goodness i did not hit back, or else i would have lost my job...
Well, actually 3 things raced thru my mind when he tried to strangle me. But these are things that told me to be rational and not to hit back. Firstly, he's only 11, despite his size and looks of a gangster. Secondly, i would have lost my job. And lastly, it's not worth dirtying my hands and ruining my future because of him. I am so glad i didn't hit back. Well, i can't say the same if this happened outside school... Now, that's a totally different matter... We have to remember what the army taught us!
Subsequently, i informed his form teacher and he suggested we call his dad... And Mr. Lock told me that the reason why he's like this is because his father is a gangster! WTF. And when i met his dad, he really looks like a drug lord / loanshark! Haha... He's like LiXiang, but twice the size with a belly nudged between his upper body and thighs... And he's bald... Well, i am not surprised...
And in my form class, i got hit by a flying recorder when i tried to protect one of my students when his friend tried to fling a file at him! The recorder flew out of the file and i got hit on the collarbone! Sianz.... What's wrong with them!!!!!!!
And the best thing? The reason why i am sitting at him at this hour now? It's because the school told me that i need not come for Sports' Day, which is today! "Relief teachers need not come for Sports' Day" I am definitely gonna check whether the other relief teachers turn up! I was pretty upset yesterday when they told me that. After doing so much for the kids, painstakingly painting their flag with Melvin till 3am, and they deny me of seeing our masterpiece at the main event!? I was absolutely gutted... It feel like i have been given a slap in the face for the things that i have done. Well, i guess the school doesn't really know how to show appreciation... Perhaps it's time i give up and move on. I truly understand what my teachers must have felt when i was still a student... I owe them a big apology, especially my P5/6 teacher, who had to call my mum almost everyday coz i refused to do my homework... Thinking back, when we were kids, we really do not appreciate what our teachers have done for us... I shall say sorry to her one day...
I know i take things for granted sometimes, which is one of my flaws... But after this incident, i truly understand what it means by not being appreciated at all for the things that you have done... For all my friends, if you had ever feel unappreciated for a favour that you have done for me, i am truly sorry. And a BIG THANK YOU to you too, from the bottom of my heart.
